| I think River said "My Old Fella", which upon some Googling, seems to indicate she was remarking about her Husband. |

| OK just got home and scrolled through my .mp4 of it. She totally says "My Old Fella". That's pretty much what I thought she said the first time around but after reading posts here it made me question it for a moment.
As for shooting the Silent, moving frame by frame (god I'm a nerd) I don't see any indication that Rory is aware of the Silent BUT there is a bright flash of light about a split second before River draws her gun and shoots it. Perhaps THAT is what she was reacting to. Still though, neither of them is looking directly at the Silent at that moment, so again, blooper or clue?
Safe? No of course you're not safe! There's about a billion other things out there just waiting to burn your whole world, but if you want to pretend you're safe just so you can sleep at night, ok, you're safe....But you're not really. |

Its a bit awkward, but I'll stand corrected. Do I seriously have to balance this fishbowl on my head though? |

| The moment after River says "My 'ol fella didn't see that did he? He gets ever so cross" she turns to face Rory and then Rory says to her "So, what kind of a doctor are you? she then says "archaeology" then without turing around immediately swings her arm around and shoots the silent creeping up on her from behind. However on repeated viewings, I think that "flash" was simply sparks or equipment exploding, I thought it was one of The Silents energy buildups. Right at the moment Rory says "you" The very next frame (at least according to my Quicktime file) Flash ZAP! (with crazy face!) |

| The Suits the Silence wears is another physical indication of their parasitic nature of how they can literally make nothing for themselves. They can't even come up with their own sense of fashion, they have to steal off other races. |

| They do seem related, don't they? Oh, and something interesting in the quest to get that shot of the Silence: When the Doctor talks about River being able to take the first three of the Silence, he also off offhandedly remarks "Plus you from the back." And she ends up shooting one of them with her back turned. Does the Doctor know more about current events then he's letting on? |

I agree. This is a HUGE plot hole. It has bothered me as soon as the episode ended. The Doctor also assumes that every human that sees a Silence has a gun. This would clearly not be the case. So the Silence could simply power up, kill the humans that don't have a gun, and pretty much decimate most of the population. |

As I explained before, it's covered in the episode that the Silence have to power up to discharge their energy blast, and combine that with the announcement catching them off guard (and standing close to Humans) that the Silence will be killed more then they can kill. |

Happy to do it. It was fun. I'm on a PowerMacG5 running OS 10.5.8. With the video playing in a QuickTime window, I'd simply pause at the scene I want to grab and do a screen capture (command+shift+4) and grab the frame, then I'd just upload it to my server to link to in my post. Heck, I'll have to see how long it would take to upload an .mp4 or .avi of the whole episode, for those of us Yanks who don't yet have BBC America. Right now I have to download each episode via bit-torrent, then convert the .avi file to .mp4 so I can play it on my AppleTV. Usually surprisingly good quality encodes too. I'm guessing they're coming right out of someone's DVR. |

| The only creative thing i have tried is using Garageband on the imac to edit the Tardis sound effects into the Soundtracks. My next thing is mixing it on the Ipad-2 using Garageband. When they do not provide instructions figure it will take me until 2099 lol.
Oh This Saturday 10 will be on with Catherine Tate on Gram Norton.
I hope this episode this Saturday generates this many pages.

But you wouldn't remember it even if you saw it.
Coincidentally, what does that mean for the Silents that are killed due to hypnotic suggestion? How are they going to handle clean up? Or is there now a spot right outside the Oval Office that stinks to high heaven for reasons no one can fathom? I had a big "duh" moment just now! If the Silence make everyone forget them by telepathy, when they get killed you would still remember the bodies because they can no longer make you forget!!! |

| I've noticed a lot of familiar elements in this two-parter. Maybe Moff's out of ideas. Let's compare:
The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon; older Moff stories:
space suit adversary; Vashta Narada,
"Somebody help me" - little girl; "Are you my mummy" - empty child,
The Silence makes you forget them when you aren't looking at them; the Weeping Angels freeze to stone when you aren't looking at them,
Amy's voice torments Rory through the communication device; Ms Evangelista's voice torments Donna through the communication device,
Our heroes discover a whole hive of The Silence and are surrounded; Our heroes discover a whole cave full of Weeping Angels and are surrounded,
Did I miss anything?
I guess he couldn't find a way of ripping off himself from The Girl in the Fireplace...

Did I miss anything? Umm, I believe the Weeping Angels "freeze" when one does looks upon them. They can move when not observed. Rather like the childhood game of "red light, green light". Sincerely, Bill |

You know, I like Moffat's work and even I can't disagree with this. Much like RTD's Deus Ex endings and perpetual Dalek fetish, Moffat has his own host of flaws in storytelling, reusing much of the same elements over and over. |

| I should say, in all fairness after my previous post, that the basic plot/story with 1969, the Apollo mission, and the Silence was cool. It's just all the familiar elements were obvious to me and the set-up of all the "questions-to-be-answered/explained-later" were a distraction. The Silence are a super-creepy-looking alien. The resolution of their threat with the subliminal message sent by the Doctor was brilliant trickery on his part.
I also liked Delaware. Interesting that Mark Sheppard is a British actor who on American TV programs plays with his natural English accent, but on Who, a British program, he's plays an American! Ironic, isn't it?
