I am catching up on my DWM reading, and I just got done reading the Pertwee interview in 457 and 458. I was already a fan, but the interview made me appreciate the man behind the Doctor even more. What a life!

My best memory of Jon was being privileged to attend a convention in Valley Forge, PA, back in the 80s where he was a guest. Unlike a lot of the guests who disappeared in the hospitality suite between panels and autograph sessions, Jon came out in the dealers room area to chat with attendees. There was a really obnoxious fan trying to thrust his autograph book into Jon's face, and he politely declined. When the rude fan asked "Why won't you sign my book?", Jon looked at him with a smile and said "Dear fellow, I'm on a break".

I've been steadily acquiring Pertwee eps on DVD, and I must say they are all brilliant so far. I love Jon's portrayal so very much...just fantastic. Even though Sarah Jane will always be near and dear to my heart, Jo Grant has been a revelation. Sure she started out a ditz, but she really seems to grow over her three seasons to become one of the rare companions to "quit" The Doctor.
