| I am totally confused now...I thought it was confirmed for 14 episodes in 2012:
BBC1 Controller Danny Cohen today revealed that, after much speculation generated since the Private Eye article and subsequent BBC announcements last week, Doctor Who will indeed be returning in a curtailed form during 2012.
Speaking at the Church and Media Conference this afternoon, Cohen's comments were relayed via Twitter, with BBC Merseyside's Religious Editor Wayne Clarke reporting: "Danny Cohen says there won't be a full series of Doctor Who in 2012, but a special run for the anniversary in 2013". The BBC's Entertainment Correspondent Liza Mzimba confirmed the comments this evening, adding that other reported comments by Cohen on the decision being made to enable head writer Steven Moffat more time to write his other hit series Sherlock were light-hearted and not meant to be taken seriously.
No other details on how many episodes will comprise the 2012 run at present, though the BBC confirmed last week that fourteen episodes had been commissioned, including this year's Christmas Special, with Matt Smith at the helm in the role as The Doctor. |

Maybe...also wonder what they mean by " a special run for the anniversary in 2013" Less eps in 2012, more for 2013? |

Less eps in 2012, more for 2013? I'm wondering: maybe the second half of series 7 at the start of 2013, then a full series in 2013 which will be the 'special run' or 'event' that they're planning coming at the end of the year, which will be closer to the actual 50th anniversary. |

Good point...or maybe they are just shortening series 7 to save $ for 2013 for some 'special' eps; would be nice to get the surviving Docs together, but I guess they would have to exclude Eccleston since he's pretty much made it clear that he won't go back to the well twice. Hmm...wonder if he will skip out on the sequel to G.I. Joe (if his character is even going to be in it)... |

| Because of the age factor, and the non-participation of 9 at least... I would rather them not try and do a multi Doc story.
I would rather them do a spanning arc across a couple to a few eps, and have the current Doc get to come across some of the baddies and companions from the classic series.

I've always wanted them to do something similar to the DS9 Tribbles episode, i.e. inserting the current Doc into a few Classic scenes. Wouldn't have to be a whole episode, something along the lines of Smith needing to retrieve something from his UNIT lab back in 1973, so he waits outside for Pertwee to leave and sneaks in.... |

That would be brilliant! And to disguise the video difference, they could show the previous Doctor on a ... Heck, there are lots of great touch-ups to Classic Who on YouTube by fans. It could work. |

| Just last week they confirmed that there were 14 new episodes commissioned. One is to be a Christmas special in 2011 and they added that they did not know how many would air in 2012.

| Something else I just thought of that may be a plus for this, seams like I remember a big sporting event going on in London in 2012. Maybe a bit tough to compete with that, both in scheduling, budget and ratings. |

Right! It would definitely have to be before that (or after?) |

| you know, i used to love the one season, 12 episodes of the rtd era. not really digging the new split series by moffat, and now he's being given another chance to shove more "twists" mid-series, etc. just doesn't seem like the same show anymore. |

| I hope Eccleston can be talked round?...maybe smoeone could make him an offer he can't refuse? *cues Godfather music* That being said, as we never saw 8 regenerate into 9, they can always give McGann a 2nd crack at the whip - along with Tennant & Smith?!??...maybe the voices of Tom, Davidson, Colin & McCoy could be used in some way? If in doubt - animate it!!!!? |

| Something else I thought of, it seams like most BBC shows never have seasons as long as 13 episodes! That the Doctor gets that many ever is a testimony to its popularity. |

| Update per Moffat:
Update: commenting on the various media stories circulating over Cohen's announcement, Steven Moffat said: "Dr Who: misquotes and misunderstandings. But I'm not being bounced into announcing the cool stuff before we're ready. Hush, and patience." |
