| I can't wait and neither can my mom. She's the reason I love DW so much and she hasn't watched the series in years, but Matt Smith's performance brought her back. Her b-day is on August 26th so she's seeing the show's return as a present to her. |

He has to save Hitler. Without Hitler, no WWII and while it hasn't been officially declared, I'm betting that it's a fixed point in Time. |

| After watching that, I can just tell that things are gonna be really emotional throughout the series... And I like it. Bring on the 27th! |

Bring on the 27th! What a touching scene. - Spoiler:
And to think that the Doctor has an answering machine and not voice mail. I used to have an answering machine myself a long time ago and I still have people who call me that think I can hear them when they leave messages on my voice mail. Can't tell you how many times I had to explain that even if I'm home I can't hear them and yet I get, "Are you there? Could you please pick up? Hello?!"
Roll on August 27th. |

I was watching Matt, and thinking the same thing about NOT using your voice! |

| I want to know how Matt does it. The man can appear his youthful 26, or he can somehow sink his face and look like an old, haggard man. It's haunting. |

As much as I objected to him at first based on his age, I like him now... and that's why. |

| In the prequel Smith's facial appearance reminds me of Troughton's so much. I can't exactly explain why. |

| I wasn't as fond of Smith at first as I am now. Series 6 has been much better than series 5, that's for sure. Nonetheless, Tennant (joint place with McGann) is still my favourite! |

| Eccleston was just too ordinary for me to be the Doctor so I instantly liked Tennant as soon as he came on the scene as the Doctor. I just, like alot of other viewers, didn't appreciate how he became such a "drama queen" towards the end. I'm referring to the character not the actor. |

| Thinking about it more I do like all of the Doctors. Each incarnation (the actors) brings something new and different to the character of the Doctor. It's just that I found Eccleston to be too much like the every day guy on the street, but don't think I'm picking on him either. I find Davison's portrayal to be on the bland side and when the companions seem more interesting than the Doctor there's a problem indeed. Bottom line is that the Doctor shouldn't be ordinary, but unique and a little alien too. |

| Yeah, that's my problem with Davison's Doctor: The man fades into the background far too often for being the main character.
As for Eccelston, he was a bit ordinary but he played his character arc well, starting out a haunted, battle scarred man who really didn't know why he persisted to going out with a smile on his face. He was by no means the perfect Doctor, but he carried himself well and had some great lines.
Tennant of course took the Whoverse by storm, but like many I was ready to see him gone by the time The End of Time rolled around.
I loved Matt's Doctor from the final bits of The End of Time, but as his run progresses I am continually amazed at how well Matt makes you believe he is 900+ years old. Tennant threw his age out there and then carried on with a tongue in cheek aplomb punctuated by some seemingly random very dark moments.
Matt manages to make the balance between "Young Body, Old Soul" far more believable. Also, for all Ten's inherent darkness, I find Eleven's understated menace to be far more terrifying due to its sincerity. His remarks to Amy, River, and Rory in The Impossible Astronaut are still chilling.
As for why Matt seems to channel Troughton, Matt's on record as saying he loves the Second Doctor and his first exposure to Classic Who once he knew he had the part was Tomb of the Cybermen. I'm sure once he started thinking in terms of acting this character, that influenced him. I've remarked how Matt's performance mirrors Troughton's. |
