I paint hair by picking one colour. I paint the hair that colour, then add a tiny amount of white to the colour and dry brush it on. Then add a tiny amount of black to the original colour, add a bit of water and do a wash. This way you end up with 3 variations of the colour.

That is a brilliant idea! I have read about it before, but don't remember . . . could one of you please explain how you 'dry brush'?

Oh, dry brushing is when you get some paint on your brush, and then dab it out on some paper, or something, to basically dry the brush so it has very little paint on it. Then, you can run the brush over something, like molded hair, and it highlights the details. It is very good for weathering, say a TARDIS or battle damaged Dalek. It does, however, seam to ruin paint brushes. The hairs get bent sometimes.

I also used it to make a Pertwee jacket look more velvety. Dry brushed Blue Angel Blue over black.

That's why it's best to use an old brush that's lost its shape. I also found you get better results using a good quality brush that's no good anymore than if you use a brand new brush from the dollar store.

I just invested in some higher-end brushes so I thought I should learn how to take care of them properly. I found this article, it was very useful.

Is there a way of removing a new series cyberman's arm without breaking it?

Well, I just had a look. The Cyberman arm has a very different joint. The arm has a ball with a slit in it, that has a little peg in the middle of the slit. The peg fits in a ring that rotates it the shoulder. It came out really easy, but doesn't go back in to easy. Actually it does now, the little peg broke off. He now has re-attaching arm!

Here is a quick little sketch of the joint:


The ball is actually rotated 90 degrees to show the slit. You would see it from the top of the arm, not a front view.

You're lucky yours came out easily (Cyberman arm, that is). I needed a single arm for something and had to pretty much annihilate the Cyberman torso to get it out.

Maybe because the ring popped out of the ball easy. And this Cyberman was being used for....mmm, "Spare Parts" anyways!

My earth shock cyberman seems to have some sort of build-up above one of his eyes, I've got a picture of it.

Is there any way to get it off?

Is it a hard, crusty substance, like dried glue? If it is, you may just try scraping it off with your finger nail. You will most likely have to touch up the paint, too.

Yes, it is, thanks, I'll try that. oh, And I use model masters paint, what would be the best paint that would match that cyberman?

Not sure, I used Tamiya Chrome Silver X-11, also, there is a Mithril Silver for a Games Workshop that matches well.

Me too!

I went to three places that I have bought paint before, and had NO LUCK. Walmart did away with their model and paint section, KMart had an 8 pack, but it was dried up. I did see a new "air brushing" kit there, but I think I should crawl before I learn to walk.

Monday, I plan on heading to a true hobby shop to get my paint.
