| Seeing Space 1999 mentioned in a few places reminded me that the first series was remastered and released. Supposedly the remastered versions are very very impressive.
I now tend to stay away from a product once I already have it, not wanting to buy things again that I already have, and I have the entires series on DVD already, but some reviews I read this just sounds incredible.
Has anyone here actually seen these remastered versions? I am not even sure they are available outside of Region 2. |

| The quality of the episodes on the remastered DVD set available in the UK is outstanding. It is amazing to see the colors and detail missing from previous releases. There is a detailed comparison between the Network release and the older carlton release -

There is a good amount of extras as well.

| The comparison here looks very impressive. I think I have seen it before. I just do not recall them looking as dingy as the articles makes it. Will have to pull out the DVDs and watch some again.
Great if they ever get released in the US. |

| Hmmm...Some of the Network pics are too bright, such as pic #2 of the Landing pad (part of the docking section is approaching burn-out lighting...It's not that bright in outer space)...Pic #9 of the Eagle command module is the same, much of the surface detail is lost.
Some of the pics are great (much brighter/clearer than the Carlton ones), but others are just too bright and washed out.

| It is amusing that some of the captions claim the special effects or model work look less convincing with the cleaned up picture.
Model work seems to have a depth that CGI just does not seem capable. |

| Yes, I do agree that sometimes the brightness does seem to be too much. There are a few times when the atmospheric shadows of some episodes are not as prominent. I really found most Eagle effects to be just as good and the only effect that I do remember noticing suffering was the monster in Dragon's Domain. Still, I believe the positives outweigh the negatives in this case. As for the second season, I thought the DVD releases (A&E) were superior to the first season and so if Network does redo season 2 I may be more critical of purchasing the new version. I actually did wait a while before finally buying the season 1 Network but I am glad I did. You could always sell your season 1 Carlton or A&E set to defer costs a bit. The Network set is region 2 and nothing has been said about a North American release. KP |

| Due to being sick now for several days I have watched several episodes from the first season. Though not as bright as those screen shots appear of the remastered stories, the picture is not as bad looking as the article seems to imply. Granted the best way would be to have both versions and watch one version, then the other. But that is something I do not have access.
Is the sound quality improved on the remastered? It often sounds like people are whispering. |

| That show looks like a lot of fun. Can someone suggest a good episode to give me a feel for the show? Looks like the remastered 30th anniversary megaset is available through our humble patrons. http://www.whona.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=W&Product_Code=sp199930thdvd&Category_Code=gerryanderson Not a bad price for 17 DVDs. |

| Space: 1999 has the following standout episodes, in my opinion: Breakaway (the first story, very 2001-ish feel to the effects) Black Sun (the "theological premise" behind the show, so to speak) Another Time, Another Place (all around excellent story) Guardian of Piri (Catherine Schell appears in this other-worldly story) The Last Sunset (a personal favorite) End of Eternity (creepy...) Mission of the Darians (some cool concepts, Joan Collins) Dragon's Domain (scared me as a kid...as it scared every other kid that watched it back then) Year Two episodes vary in quality, and there are a handful of standouts, but I still stick with recommending Year One stories. Watching Space: 1999 is a bit of a culture shock when it comes to Sci Fi. It's a show that usually has to grow on you. It's very stylized, visually stunning, and often unexplained and very "sterile." Once you see an episode or two, you will know what I mean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBPLLepzLyI&feature=related The above link to YouTube features 2 promos, one for Dragon's Domain, the other for End of Eternity. Both accurately reflect the "feel" of the shows. Here's one of the more frightening sequences from Dragon's Domain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tbXhu09m5s
