| And finally got to take some Star Wars pics. First up we have the Sideshow R2D2 1/6th scale figure. I didn't like the weathering effect, so I got rid of it. Compared to Hot Toys, it feels pretty low quality. It is very light. If you tilt it, a lot of the ports and doors flop open. Another big complaint is the instructions, or lack thereof. For example, the battery compartment and light switch for the LEDs are under the dome. The instruction sheet shows how to put the dome back on... but it would be nice to have mentioned how to take it off in the first place. Apparently they got so much email on it they posted a how to video on their Sideshow blog, but then took it down. Another thing that would have been nice to mention is that the LEDs, once the switch is turned on are controlled by a touch sensitive port on the dome. One tap turns on the main lights, another tap turned on the holo projector, and another tap turns them off. You would think this would be an important tidbit for people to know. Here I was thinking there was a loose connection (which is easy to go that route with how cheap it feels). I had to get all this from going through the forums. I will admit, the LEDs are cool when lit. They cycle through and move so it's not just a static light. The LED holo of Leia looks good too. Now there are a ton of accessories... but no way Im going to play around with all this stuff.

| They are beautiful! The detail on the blaster looks great.
The thing that struck me about R2 and all of his accessories was that if Hasbro or Kenner had been releasing this, he would have had multiple releases with different parts, not everything in one set! LOL |

| Just read the final issue of the Princess Leia comic. Although I feel the series overall was probably the weakest of these new canon comics so far, both in story and also artwork, this issue was great. The last few panels were very nicely done and this issue had a very heartwarming and inspiring message to it. Alderaan lives! And I just read the first issue of Lando! Wow! I'm really excited for this series! Great to see more of Lando's and Lobot's characters and their relationship. Love the whole good-guy-just-trying-to-make-his-way-in-a-bad-galaxy stuff. Didn't see that little twist at the end coming, either! I'm excited to see where that goes! Great artwork, too, I should add! Now the only problem I have is... Where does this fit in the timeline? I'm not sure where to put it on my shelf! I suppose since 'regional governors' are mentioned, it would be post-ANH. It's definitely pre-ESB. Not sure specifically where inbetween ANH and ESB to put it though... And finally, I just read Darth Vader #7. The cover suggested we were going to see Vader trace Luke's roots and it was to be expected that we'd see some juicy stuff with that, and we do see him check out the homestead and Obi-Wan's hutt, but really he just looks around and walks back off again, which is a shame. I was hoping for more with that. A cool issue but not the best; it kinda pales against the last couple of stunning issues we've had. Really enjoying these comics! It's great to be enjoying new canon material regularly, and it's great for me, too, as this has given me the chance to follow Star Wars comic serials from the beginning which I wasn't really able to do with a lot of the good stuff in Legends due to being born out of time and joining the party late! |
