| I like them. It is interesting to read comments about them on various sites, and there are those who don't understand how the Empire could be around after Palpatine's death. Try spending decades reading books describing how the Empire survives. But of course, those books are not cannon, and never were.......they say now. |

| I seem to have these in my "The Art of The Empire Strikes Back" book. McQuarrie and Joe Johnston had variants to the snowtroopers and stormtroopers that had this looked, and I really liked them. |

| I have read that a LOT of the designs harken back to McQuarrie per-production art....and that makes me happy! |

| I dig both designs.
And of course the Empire would still be around. Even if the EU books aren't canon, you don't dismantle a multi-planet Empire with massive military complex simply because you threw the leader down a hole. Heck, its stated in A New Hope - with the disbanding of the Senate, the Regional Governors had direct control over their territories. Now the majorly corrupt ones and the bootlickers probably found themselves quickly thrown out of power by angry citizens after news of Palpatine's death and the Empire's defeat on Endor spread. But there were probably plenty of charismatic ones that didn't abuse the position of their office that probably stayed loyal to the Imperial ideal.
And if the Rebels didn't want to be seen as just another Empire, then they'd have to let those systems go willingly. |

Good think I care less about what they say I myself say... the initial EU novel run (before switching labels) and the Marvel SW run are canon, and anything prequel related is NOT. |

| In the books it talks about how the Empire got smaller and smaller, but basically had a policy where if a particular world didn't want to stay with the Empire, they could join the New Republic. A lot of the systems in the Deep Core had it good under Palps, so they stayed. I imagine it's like in Star Trek where they have a tense peace with the Klingons, and a neutral zone where neither military is allowed to go.
Realistically there would be a period of civil war in the Empire, while the power vacuum remained. But whoever could establish themselves as top dog would continue the fight against the Rebels. I imagine they certainly lost Coruscant, and have been driven into a smaller and smaller area of the galaxy. Perhaps Ep 7 will mark a change in that, with the Empire having prepared enough troops and materiel to challenge the New Republic. |
