i've just been re-watching the harry episodes. i thought he was a great companion. i think the fact that he was a medic made good chemistry between him and the doctor. and let's not forget him calling sarah jane "old thing"(i wouldn't call her that now, because i'm not averse to dating older women). they should have kept him, but for some reason, the show thinks it just needs the doctor and a female companion.
i blame pertwee. with hartnell and troughton, they actually had male companions that helped. when it got to pertwee, he wanted to be the man of action, so no room for anyone else to help out. i read that the reason they created harry was because they thought the 4th doctor would be older than tom, and when they got tom, they didn't think they needed harry anymore. he added a good dynamic to the show(sort of like mickey). should have been in more stories.
