| Peter Davison is one of those Doctors that I can watch anytime, no matter what kind of mood I'm in.
I've always liked the Fifth Doctor's heart(s!) and vulnerability. He's a bit more "human," if you will, than most the other fellows. A Doctor I can easily relate to as a person, not as a "larger-than-life hero." Very down to earth.
Much like Pete himself...

| Earthshock will be the story to highlight the 5th Docs era on BBCA this anniversary year. Quite right as well. This was the beginning of the nostalgia fest that was the 5th Doctors era. As well as the last real surprise fans would experience with the earthshocking appearance of the Mondas menace at the end of episode 1. |

| I was hoping it wouldn't be "Earthshock" since BBCA is bound to botch the ending with their compressed credits and promos for other shows.
I wonder how they'll discuss Adric in the 5th Doctor special without giving too much away to people who don't know any better. |

| If you watch the documentary on the Earthshock dvd the participants bring that very topic up. They wonder what it would look like in the current broadcast style.
I hope a member of the forum will let those of us who do not have BBCA know what they do. |

| I suppose they could close on a clean screen grab of the badge and fade to black...though I wouldn't count on it being a slow one.
Whoosier, I'll try to remember to post what they do here. The 26th seems a long way off. |

| As expected, BBCA did its usual compressed-credits job at the end of "Earthshock." Not even a second of black after the fade-out on the Doc's shocked face. What they did do was run an ident with animated blooming flowers that ran a few seconds...you know, to give the viewers chance for a short breath before the hard sell for the upcoming season of "Copper." I can't really say they botched the ending since the whole blinkin' story was botched from the start, thanks to the 5th Doctor special before it. Do you really want to give away every detail of the story you're about to air if you want viewers to stick around for the next two-and-a-half hours? As a stand-alone special, they way they spilled the beans on Adric was fine. BUT IT WAS NEVER DESIGNED TO STAND ALONE! It was produced to air BEFORE "Earthshock." Then again, maybe they weren't sure they were going to run "Earthshock" at first...maybe they had originally planned for "Timeflight" instead. Heh. They probably scrapped those plans since they'll be running "Timelash" next month and thought the similar titles would cause confusion. Say...what the heck ARE they gonna run next month? |
