DAMN YOU SCIFI CHANNEL!!!!

Okay, so when I found this out I was really, really, really pissed!

As it turns out, when SciFi channel ran "The Last of the Time Lords" on Friday, THEY CUT A BUNCH OF SCENES TO MAKE IT FIT THE TIMESLOT!!! WHAT?!?!?! As soon as I found this out, I downloaded the episode (sorry Internet police) and rewatched it. They were some awesome scenes too!!!

No wonder I kept feeling confused. It felt like things were happening a little too fast. What, SciFi couldn't POSSIBLY spare a few extra minutes to air the whole friggin' episode?! If USA Network can do it, then so can you! GAH!

Saki, do you live in UK or USA? In the UK those bits were going to be cut, but the BBC let them have another 10 minutes, so that's why!

I can understand running the cut down version in reruns, but you'd think SciFi could bend the rules for the initial run - it's cable for Pete's sake.

Oh well, the DVDs come out pretty soon - just another reason to pick them up.

I just loved that Flash Gordon ending to it.

Magicman: I live in the US. Apparently we decided to cut them anyway. But, at least I got to see the ENTIRE episode eventually.

Forget Sci-Fi. Once Season 4 starts in the UK, I'll be keeping up with that, instead of waiting for them to air over here (and possibly be deprived of some scenes). You guys in the UK are lucky.

CJSchmidt: Yes, although it would be nice to pay under $70 for one of the boxsets, though. Out of desperation, I paid $80 for season 1...and that was with a 20% discount!!! Another disadvantage of being a US Who fan.

Oh, well I'm sorry about that. YouTube is always good for Doctor Who things.

Yeah, it would be...but I am rather spoiled and I can't stand watching my Doctor Who in less-than-perfect quality.

In reality, the £UK price is comparable to the $US price.

Scifi edits the episodes so they can air their commercials and keep aloft in revenue. This is the same channel that poops out C level scifi claptraps after all.

Catching some of the episodes on BBC America, their version doesn't seem to be as severe as Scifi.

Oh, I never knew USA network aired Doctor Who...

I download the episodes shortly after they air in the UK. However, it blows my mind that so many people post and download Who and then claim that they are true fans. They'll keep downloaded episodes and rewatch them.

If you're a fan, support the show and buy it when it comes out on DVD. If you don't, you should have your Doctor Who fan club license revoked and not be allowed to watch any more. Period.

borders+borders rewards=they just had a coupon for 40% off a boxed set. Sorry Whona my wife allowed me to purchase torchwood series1 since I had the coupon. unfortunately it's off list so it was comparable to your price when you had it.

You need to write this a bit differently. If you're a pirate and you don't buy the DVDs when they come out and delete the episodes you downloaded, then you're not a fan.

The seventy or so dollars they're charging us for each season is outrageous though. Checking Borders now, it's $100! I won't be buying until they drop it to around $30-50 that every other television season sets are priced at. As is, this is just like Paramount gouging Star Trek fans.

Most BBC dvd releases are expensive. I think it's partly to do with the complexity of the BBC and all the red tape that is involved in exporting their material.

To compare amazon.co.uk is selling season 3 for $96.14/msrp $137.35 (converted from pounds). That may or may not include VAT (17.5% I think)

I can usually find it online for about $70 in the US - so it could be worse.

Add to it the following:

1) The UK Pound is 2 to 1 against the US Dollar.
2) BBC Programming is developed without advertiser $$. So basically, you are paying for the privelage to watch socialist television.

The higher prices for the BBC programming are, to me, well worth it. I am willing to pay a bit extra when I know I am receiving quality entertainment. As far as the Sci Fi channel, I really don't like the way they cut things off and run those moving adds overtop of the programming. And I really don't like the way they squash the end credits to advertise other programs.
