| Wonder if anyone knows about this ....

The BBC Shop (whatever that is!) is starting to re-release out-of-print titles in Region 1 ... but they are calling it "Made On Demand" releases.
Does anyone know what that means exactly? Are they going to individually burn copies for every order? If that's what they do, will these be low-quality ... like with an ink jet printer label?
In theory I'm all for it, I hate the out-of-print restrictions for collectors. Just wondering what it will be like.
thanks! |

That's pretty much it, except that in my experience...they're better quality than just some cheap-old "burn and sticker" copy made from home. Warner (Bros.) Archive has been doing MOD for years now, as well as Amazon and other folks, and in every case but one...they've been just as good as a mass produced one. The one single case I had a problem with was one that skipped and stuttered, but you can get that with a standard release from time to time, really. Assuming that Warner Bros. is still the North American distributor for the BBC titles, I should think that the quality will be just as great as the Warner Archive releases...of which I have many. I wouldn't worry. |

| Totally agree. I've bought tons of MOD from WB and never had any issues. I actually don't think they use stickers for the discs. As they look almost silk screened? I do find they are actually usually more colorful than the regular disc art. - SeaDevil wrote:

I wouldn't worry. That is really great to know, and that it isn't brand-new technology, so to speak! I honestly have never heard of MOD ... but it makes complete sense. Very glad to hear form someone who's had hands-on experience. I might get one or two, just to show support for the idea. |

I've been lucky enough over the years to actually have all the region 1 stuff (I'm old!), so I do kinda want to get one of these MOD just to compare and contrast. thanks! |

| I'm excited for this. But for the time being only getting 6 of the ten. One, Three Doctors is going to be on the Blu-ray set in October (why october why??) Sun Makers, Frontios, and Invasion don't really interest me as much as my main six. But will still get those after. |
