http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/doctor-who/news/a542804/doctor-who-series-9-to-air-in-2015-says-steven-moffat.html

With Series 8 starting in August, I didn't think we'd see Series 9 in 2015, but when you do the maths it makes sense. Series 8 will finish at the end of November/beginning of December, so they'll probably produce Series 9 early or mid 2015 and then it will air in August 2015.

This kinda annoys me. I really do prefer starting a new year with new Who episodes at the beginning of the year, and unless there's another short break that means we don't see any episodes for a whole year (and please don't do that because 2009 was one of the most boring years I've ever known, even with the specials), it means Who will be at the end of each year until then from now on. This also renders the 'specialness' of the Christmas specials pretty redundant. We'd be better suited with a Christmas special in May from now on... *le facepalm*

Another thing. Since Moffat is the one confirming Series 9... Does that mean he plans to stay longer than Series 8?  No Neutral

Ah well. On the bright side, at least we'll have Capaldi to make it better - that is, of course, trusting that Moffat writes his Doctor well. We've gotta hope.

Yes! Doctor Who will now run August to November and then have a Christmas Special. No breaking the series into two parts. No Christmas episode in the middle of the series. No showing the series over the summer when the ratings and public interest is low. Just a solid run straight through. And no plans for a huge gap year coming anytime soon. So much better than the way it's been going.

I'm definitely pleased that we're getting the straight 13 episodes and not two halves at two different points in the year. I would prefer the first episode to air around April though, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. bounce

Apparently Capaldi isn't as in awe of Moffat as Matt Smith was and has actually raised objections to some of the writing. I just saw someone say it on Tumblr. This seems to be the source: http://kitt66.tumblr.com/post/68149286642/so-i-was-at-the-50th-in-london-excel-yesterday-and-i

I really like the idea of DW as a "fall" show, for some reason.

Both Moffat and Capaldi are childhood fans of the show.

And you know what happens when two fanboys enter into a dialogue...

Well it looks like August 2014 is the official start date for Series 8. Let's hope they can get us 13 episodes this year and another 13 in 2015. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01zp3cd
very non-spoilery announcement on the BBC website.
