Yeah I had to take a minute and think what was correct to say too. Chips in the UK are potatoes cut into wedges and fried. Same thing as your Chips or Crisps really but they are thinner/crunchier . Oh..... Why is life so complicated?

UK chips = US fries UK crisps = US chips

Ah, but is there only chips that are cut into wedges? Those are called potato wedges or homestyle fries in my area. Do you get potatoes cut into strips like McDonalds? Are they called chips too? Or are they called french fries? Oh, the Great Potato Naming Conundrum!!
And our potato chips do seam to be your crisps!!
But, what do I get if I ask for a cookie? Or a biscuit?
Someone give me a flashlight to see my way out of this insanity!

In the Nick Meyer film Time After Time H.G. Wells was at the McDonalds and when he was eating his lunch he proclaims "Pom Frits!" when he eats his fries, so now there is another word for them!
