As I was watching Closing Time last night I kept thinking where is it I have seen the woman playing the sales woman Val before?...TOPEKA! That is Lynda Baron famous (In Who Circles) as Captain Wrack in Enlightenment (1983). She was great in Enlightenment, as well as in Closing Time, and its always nice when they bring back actors that have played in the older series episodes. She also sung the ballad in The Gunfighters (1966), but we won't hold that against her.

Oh my gosh! I forgot reading that she was going to be in the new series. I loved her in Enlightenment too. She was pretty good in all of the scenes that she was in with Smith and I couldn't help thinking that she could be a cool future companion if tptb chose to go that route.

I thought the ballad in gunfighters was interesting. made it feel like an authentic cowboy movie. . .they did GREATLY overuse it though I must admit.

To me she is the owner of Pippin the dog from Come Outside, a kids show that was played daily on CBBC when I was much much younger! I used to love that show!

Agreed. The ballad itself wasn't bad, as such contrivances go. It was the incessant use of the frakking thing that rendered it unpalatable! |
