Best episode for each Doctor Empty
PostSubject: Best episode for each Doctor   Best episode for each Doctor EmptySun May 06, 2007 11:45 pm

I know a lot of new Doctor Who fans who don't know much about the classic series, but would like to be "introduced" to the former regenerations. So I'm looking for an episode that is entertaining, but also delivers a good representation of that particular Doctor.

I figure this could be a good resource for new fans. It would also make for one hell of a weekend marathon.

Anyone want to give it a shot?

Here's my list, confined to the releases available on DVD, but they are mostly my favorites. Tough time with Colin Baker; I chose the one where he's the least abrasive.

First Doctor: The Dalek Invasion of Earth
Second Doctor: The Tomb of the Cybermen
Third Doctor: Spearhead from Space
Fourth Doctor: The Pirate Planet
Fifth Doctor: Earthshock
Sixth Doctor: Revelation of the Daleks
Seventh Doctor: Remembrance of the Daleks
Eighth Doctor: The 1996 TV movie is your only option.
Ninth Doctor: Bad Wolf / The Parting of the Ways
Tenth Doctor: The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit

I'm assuming you're planning on using just the existing DVD releases;

First Doctor: The Daleks
Second Doctor: The Tomb of the Cybermen
Third Doctor: Spearhead From Space
Fourth Doctor: Genesis of the Daleks
Fifth Doctor: The Caves of Andorzani
Sixth Doctor: Revelation of the Daleks
Seventh Doctor: Remembrance of the Daleks

However, if you have the complete collection to go with... :dalek:

:doc1: First Doctor: The Time Meddler
:doc2: Second Doctor: The War Games
:doc3: Third Doctor: Frontier in Space
:doc4: Fourth Doctor: The Seeds of Doom
:doc5: Fifth Doctor: The Black Guardian Trilogy
:doc6: Sixth Doctor: The Trial of a Time Lord
:doc7: Seventh Doctor: Remembrance of the Daleks

I can't pick just one, so I'll go with two.

First Doctor: Keys of Marinus, War Machines,
Second Doctor: Ice Warriors, Invasion,
Third Doctor: Ambassadors of Death, Frontier in Space,
Fourth Doctor: Pyramids of Mars, Planet of Evil,
Fifth Doctor: Four to Doomsday, Enlightenment,
Sixth Doctor: Mark of the Rani, Revelation of the Daleks,
Seventh Doctor: Remembrance of the Daleks, Curse of Fenric,
Eighth Doctor: well there's just the one!,
Ninth Doctor: Dalek, Empty Child/Doctor Dances,
Tenth Doctor: Human Nature/Family of Blood, Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead.

There you have it! Not necessarily popular answers, but favorites of mine to watch.

I can't speak for the classic series but:

Ninth Doctor: Dalek
Tenth Doctor: Fires of Pompeii - A brilliant example of Tennant's light and dark side.

Best episode for each Doctor Empty
PostSubject: Re: Best episode for each Doctor   Best episode for each Doctor EmptyFri Aug 14, 2009 3:09 am

okay there are way too many favorites to name favorites but i'll pick the ones that have stuck in my head for all the years,

first doc- an unearthly child. was one of the only ones i had of his that aired on pbs, even when i watch it now on dvd its so good. the show was born on this episode. the plot almost seems tame by the standards the show continued to set but is still an excellent mission statment for the show.

second doc- all i had for a long time was the dominators as a child because it aired on pbs. so i remeber this one the best but i really love the cartooned up version of invasion now. i wish i had a billion dollars so i could give the bbc all the money it needs to fix these fallen treasures and restore the history of the show in visual form

third doc. i must say it always comes back to inferno. im just a sucker for parrallel universe stories.

fourth doc- well as you can tell from my avatar, i like tom baker alot. he is my doctor and its virtually impossible to pick a fav but if i had too i would say that genesis of the daleks. with extreme honorable mentions to the deadly assassin, and the invasion of time.

fifth doc- black orchid. i know this one is not epic or paticularly long but the creepy hunchback twin and the tribesman with the funky lip has stuck with me for my whole life, and you get double the sarah sutton, whats not to love

sixth doc- honestly i have to say the trial of a timelord is really when i watched colin and thought this guy's not to bad. i know its like a whole season but it just seemed like one long story to me.

seventh doc- paradise towers. just watched it the other day and i still love it. its bad but its so bad its good. love the kangs and robot that lives in the pool, canibal elderly residents, ahhh the eighties.

eighth doc- only has one and im sorry if i offend anyone but i pretend it dosent exist. no offense to paul i dont blame him and people tell me he has done wonderfull things for himself on audio but i hate every aspect of this story, the casting, and the overall feel of the episode.

nineth doc- it might be easier to list the one i dont like,,,,.......wait there isnt one so yeah,... god i loved series one... im gonna go with rose because it calmed my fears that this was gonna suck and made me a believer again. but they were all bloody brilliant!

tenth doc- you know its funny i loved eccleston so much, that when he changed to tennent it felt just like watching tom become peter, i almost wanted to not like him at first, but david was brilliant from day one and i cant wait to see how he leaves the role. my favorite episode of davids is just to tough but i will say human nature and the family of blood are worn out on my dvd so that must mean somthing, come to think of it that whole disc is great.

peace.

WarGames is coming out in November as a three disk set. It is really good from what I heard in the reviews by UK fans.

A very old thread started wayyy back in 2007 before Time Meddler came out on DVD. Not that we've really added many Pertwees to the list since then. But goodness, shouldn't Jon look nice with all the new/old color when Frontier/Planet comes out.
