Actor Bruce Purchase who battled the 4th Doctor and the 1st Romana in the classic series story The Pirate Planet from The Key to Time series has passed away.

He also appeared in Blakes 7 in The Keeper, the penultimate episode of Season 2.

He also appeared in I, Claudius and also Rumpole of the Bailey.

Many people may have felt that his portrayal as the Captain was OTT, but as a younger fan I think I was 9 or 10 it was great fun to watch him yell and stomp at the Doctor. Pirate Planet for years was my favorite story of that season until it was recently replaced by the moody Stones of Blood.

His talent will be missed
