These were all really funny animated shows show in the USA on Nickelodeon back in the late 1980's. In fact Cosgrove Hall the studio that made these, were responsible for not only Scream of the Shalka (on my 'to watch' list) but the magnificent recreations of the missing episodes of The Invasion!

In fact, a couple of times Doctor Who was indeed referenced on Danger Mouse.

"It's a time machine" - Danger Mouse

"Ooooh just like that Doctor fellow." - Penfold

"Who?" -Danger Mouse

"Exactly" - Penfold

I was a rabid Danger Mouse fan as a kid. My favorite episode had to be the one in which the villain stole all the music in the world, so at the end of the show the characters had to sing the theme song over the closing credits. It was so spectacularly terrible! I laughed 'til my sides hurt.

I remember them, and I wish they would be shown again (no money to spring for DVDs).

Always surprised Count Duckula was a different spinoff from Danger Mouse, but I still liked both shows.

Yeah, back when the only "commercial breaks" Nickelodeon had were previews for upcoming programs. (Or had they already gone "commercial" by the time DM debuted? I honestly can't remember.)

I do remember discovering that network by accident. I had cable with one premium channel, HBO. As strange as it may seem now, we selected the "regular" channels by still twisting the electro-mechanical dial, getting stations on 2 through 13. To access HBO, one turned to channel 3 and "slid" a switch on a convertion box. One evening, I meant to watched a movie, but I accidentally rotated the tuner to either channel 4 or channel 2 and slid the switch. Instead of the movie I intended to see, I saw the last few seconds of a program that was made with video (giving it that "soap opera" look). A teenaged boy was pleading with something resembling a "shower curtain" with a claw! The "creature" slammed it's appendage upon a table and bellowed, "This means war!" Then the show concluded with a score worthy of Doctor Who.

As some of you may have guessed, I caught the trailing moments of a "Tomorrow People" episode (the original version, not the remake).

The point is, my cable provider had not made any announcements about carrying this "children's network". I had no idea it existed. I thought it may have been a "signal fluke", that somehow, the cable office got its dishes misaligned and I figured it would disappear in a day or two. But nope, it stayed upon the "line-up" and eventually, a few more channels were added that could only be accessed by using the conversion box in "pay channel" mode and selecting one of the channels upon the VHF dial.

Back to Danger Mouse, I understand the voice of Stiletto Crow was redubbed for American airings. When I watched the episodes, he spoke with a rough Cockney accent, but if what I read is true, in the original UK broadcasts, he spoke with an Italian accent. Can anyone verify or denounce this?

Sincerely,

Bill

I have the DVD's of the first few season and he does have his italian accent again. they were afraid that the american audiences could be greatly offended, but they werent.

I am going to be putting my DVD's up for sale soon. I just have to clear out a lot of my stuff since I have way too much.

HBO Home Video released five (I think) Danger Mouse VHS tapes, and those episodes have Stilleto speaking in the US-dubbed Cockney accent (saying "Oi Barony" instead of "Si Si Barony"). Also, on those tapes, the episodes have linking narration where the announcer goes off for minutes at a time, over a static picture of the Danger Mouse logo, on random topics, and it gets pretty surreal!
I'm glad someone else remembers Banana Man, which I also loved. One of my prized possessions that I brought back from England was a Bananaman Annual. Did anyone else watch any of the other Nickelodeon shows like "The Third Eye," "The Tomorrow People," and "The Adventures of Black Beauty"?

Did the Third Eye have some weird story from New Zealand about kids being chased down brightly lit organic style alien tunnels?

It is an image in my head.

That might be it...I only remember seeing an episode or two, and have no recollection of much beyond the credits.

I don't remember that exact image, Hoosier, but it sounds like something from The Third Eye -- all of the stories involved children and supernatural phenomenon; "The Third Eye" was the umbrella term under which Nickelodeon aired a bunch of different series dealing with this subject matter.
