Yeah, but it also wouldnt surprise me if Matt had told Moff a lot earlier and he already had a short list in mind. Or Moff just knew that Matt was probably going to be leaving in a years time anyway and already started working on who to try and get.

Didn't Wil Wheaton imply he knew who it was on Tumblr? I wouldn't be surprised by a "fast announcement." As a matter of fact, I thought that Moffat had said he had an actor in mind for the part before Matt came in and wowed their pants off. Maybe he decided to turn around and make an offer to someone he already saw audition?

It didn't make much sense that there would be an announcement already. I only saw it in one place on tumblr, so I am surprised that they had to announce it on facebook.

The story was, that I heard anyway, a newspaper had got hold of the story and found out who the 12th Doctor is going to be, and said that they would publish it. Thus the rumour was that because the BBC wanted to announce it themselves, they would be forced to make the announcement themselves this weekend. So it would have made sense if that were the case, but it obviously wasn't. bounce

A couple of sources are claiming that Rory Kinnear has been offered the role, but no confirmation.

I only know him from a cameo in Ashes to Ashes, Series 2, but I guess he's been in some of the recent Bond films.

He played Bill Tanner in the last two 007 movies. I wonder if they will have a special to announce whoever it is like they did Matt.

That was a special episode of Doctor Who Confidential. Which is now gone. I'll expect that they'll have him on news programs, online content, and maybe Blue Peter.

I could live without hearing 'brother' every other word, though (could be a catchphrase like Fantastic!). I think I was having too many Hulk Hogan promo flashbacks during LOST.

Confirmation on who will play the role of The 12th Doctor will be confirmed this Autumn, RadioTimes.com reports.
BBC insiders have told RadioTimes.com that filming on the Christmas special – to be followed by the full series – will not take place until the autumn – probably August, or even September.
According to sources the identity of The 12th Doctor is almost certain to be announced just prior to filming, which means that it is very likely that the new incarnation of the Time Lord will not be unveiled until late summer.
Initially the BBC had hoped to begin filming the Christmas special earlier, with some sources suggesting July as a potential date.

Series 5 was by far my favorite of Moffat's reign, and I hope he can do the same for the first Series of Doctor 12.
