A Way Fans Can Help Locate Missing Episodes - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Way Fans Can Help Locate Missing Episodes   A Way Fans Can Help Locate Missing Episodes - Page 2 EmptyThu Aug 16, 2007 1:44 am

For the sake of completeness, it is also possible to draft the suggested text for other places on the globe to search for missing episodes, though these places just seem less likely prospects. The first of these is Gibraltar.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The BBC is searching for lost episodes of classic television shows, including Doctor Who. Currently 108 episodes of Doctor Who are missing from the BBC archives.

36 of the 108 missing episodes were sent to Gibraltar, mostly in 1973. Some may still exist in Gibraltar as 16mm film prints or possibly as early off-air recordings.

You can see the full list of missing episodes of Doctor Who (as well as missing episodes from other British TV shows such as Hancock’s Half Hour, A for Andromeda, etc.) at:

http://www.missing-episodes.com

If you think you may have a missing episode as a 16mm print or a copy in another format (8mm off-air or videotape), or have any information about these episodes, please contact the BBC by sending an email to:

info@restoration-team.co.uk

There is further information at:

The nations of the Caribbean also received early Hartnell episodes.

Mauritius also received these early Hartnell episodes, but a poster to another forum directly received a response that their episodes were returned. There is even some doubt as to whether the episodes were even broadcast, so off-air recordings would not even have been a possiblity. This place is a real dead dodo!

Kenya, Zimbabwe (Rhodesia), and Thailand each received the same batch of nine early Hartnell episodes. If you want to use this posting, just delete the names of two of the three countries in both places in the text.

Marco Polo only was also sent to Ghana, Iran, and Venezuela. Again, the same text can be used for all three.

PostSubject: Re: A Way Fans Can Help Locate Missing Episodes   A Way Fans Can Help Locate Missing Episodes - Page 2 EmptyThu Aug 16, 2007 1:45 am

Lastly, there are a number of other places on earth where color Pertwee episodes may have been shown. Here is a generic text that could work for any of the places. I just list all 13 episodes sought in color although probably they were not all sold to each place.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The BBC is searching for color copies of 13 episodes of the series Doctor Who. Though filmed in color, these episodes today exist in the archives only as black-and-white prints. Color footage is sought to restore these episodes for release on DVD.

In the 1970s, at least some of the episodes listed below were broadcast in color in

[ Japan | South Korea | Dubai | Saudi Arabia | Kuwait | Brunei | Qatar | Lebanon | Gibraltar ]

The episodes come from the stories:

The Ambassadors of Death
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 6
Part 7

The Mind of Evil
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6

Planet of the Daleks
Part 3

Invasion of the Dinosaurs (Onscreen title: Invasion)
Part 1

If you have a videotape of these episodes in color or have any information about color copies of these episodes, please contact the BBC by sending an email to:

info@restoration-team.co.uk

Here is a print and online story that has been released in Zambia...

http://www.lowdown.co.zm/2007/2007-05/drwho.htm

Unfortunately, it was submitted for publication at a time when the Treasure Hunt was believed still to be operational. Still, it could be of some help.

A Way Fans Can Help Locate Missing Episodes - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Way Fans Can Help Locate Missing Episodes   A Way Fans Can Help Locate Missing Episodes - Page 2 EmptyFri Sep 28, 2007 1:52 pm

Foreign archives have been contacted over and over and over and over and over about these missing episodes. Even if somehow a missing episode has been overlooked in foreign archives, people such as Paul Vanezis or Sue Malden are better placed to actually go into such archives to search.

However, just as Bruce Grenville (a private citizen) happened to have a copy of 'The Lion' in his home in New Zealand, there might be other individuals who hold missing episodes. Thus, it would be useful to increase the level of communication generally about which episodes are missing and whom to contact (the RT) if any information is known about them.

For example, in less than a minute, I posted the following ad on Craig's list for Sydney Australia...

http://sydney.craigslist.org/com/433594748.html

It is a needle-in-a-haystack sort of attempt, but with enough of these here and there on the internet, a person with a missing episode or a person that knows someone who has or might have a missing episode could read this info and get this information back to the RT folks. This is something simple that fans could do that has at least a small chance of leading to a find. Every so often, when I have a spare moment, I tack one of these postings up on the internet somewhere. Probably futile, but it just takes a few moments and nothing ventured, nothing gained.

In addition, it would be great to try to get the word out in some of the more out-of-reach areas of the world.

For example, Brian Wilson mangaged to get an article on the missing episodes posted to an online magazine about Zambia...

http://www.lowdown.co.zm/2007/2007-05/drwho.htm

The article was written back at the very start of the discussion of the possibility that Zambian archives might have missing BBC material. In any case, here is some publicity that went out to the public at large in Zambia.

The first season of classic Doctor Who aired on CBC in Canada in the 60's. The first season included Marco Polo and The Reign of Terror aka: The French Revolution, I live very close to the CBC office building!

I have the mind of evil...broadcasted on wttw in the 80's but sadly it is in black and white. The vhs copy has degraded quite a bit. Never recalled seeing it in color. Only saw it once.
