Doctor Who Movie Questions Empty
PostSubject: Doctor Who Movie Questions   Doctor Who Movie Questions EmptySun Jul 11, 2010 9:28 pm

Hi guys, I just got finished watching the Doctor Who Movie. I have a few questions.

1. Is it true the Timelords can only regenerate 13 times? if so wouldn't that put the doctor with 1 left?

2. If the master dies then and there how do they bring him back with tennant?

BQ: Is there anywhere i can watch the classic doctor who episodes? all of them

1) As far as we know right now, yes.

2) The Master was given a new set of regenerations during the Time War, and above and beyond that, is excellent at stealing bodies.

Oh okay. So when they bring him back its almost like he was reborn? and does that mean the 12th doctor will be the last?

Yeah, kinda. And, strictly speaking 13 will be the last. 12 regenerations means 13 bodies.

So that means they can make it to were the 13th doctor can regenerate but not change his face so he will live forever?

They can do whatever they'd like, really, it's their fictional universe after all Smile My bet is that when the time comes it'll simply be revealed that he got another set in the Time War (thus giving us 9 or so to go) or knows how to get himself another set via some dangerous piece of Time Lord technology that it will take the better part of a season to find.

Or maybe they will just ignore it and he will keep regenerating. That would suck though.

Stephen Moffat indicated that the regeneration limit was imposed by the Time Lords and is not biological. So, simply in "The Five Doctors," the Time Lords allowed the Master to keep regenerating rather than actually affect his biology.

And as long as the BBC thinks the show is worth keeping, the Doctor will keep regenerating.

But whatever happens, the death of the 13th Doctor should definitely be a big deal!

It is said the regeneration limit will be addressed in a sly way in SJA's upcoming season. With both the Master and Rassilon coming back after "death" and some inference that the Lords may be a form of energy or can achieve a higher consciousness in TEOT, an escape from the limit is very possible.
As I recall from the Movie, the Master had been executed by the Daleks, but he took possession of a local life form, the snake you see. If that and the great "Traken loaner" can happen too, it shows the writers can and will take liberties.

Russell T. Davies jokingly thought of adding a line to Rassilon's speech at the beginning of "The End of Time pt. 2" along the lines of having granted 150 regenerations to all Time Lords to help them fight the war, just to end the discussion about "what happens after the 13th Doctor decides to quit?" once and for all.

It's funny how an arbitrary decision by Robert Holmes gave rise to such a commotion in later years. He needed some sort of motivation behind the Master's whole plan in "The Deadly Assassin," and came up with the idea that Time Lords have a finite number of regenerations just for the purposes of that one story, with no thought to developing some ongoing "mythology" that was going to become so significant to so many as the years went on.

To be fair, who'd have thought Doctor Who would be so successful for so long?

And, to be honest, I like the whole 13 Regenerations bit. It adds a little bit of drama to know that Doctor #13 is the "last", till they figure out how to get around that rule.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the Doctor's last incarnation meets up with the Doctor that stayed with Rose? Perhaps through this clone the Doctor is able to regenerate again with no limits?
