The Theme Song Empty
PostSubject: The Theme Song   The Theme Song EmptyFri Jun 25, 2010 7:42 pm

I'm not too big on the new theme song, though it is growing on me. I've missed the cello of the 9th/10th Doctor series - that part of the melody that was somewhat ominous, that duh-duh-duh duh-duh-duh duh-duh-duh...etc. I know it's still there, but it's not as pronounced as in the previous show openings.

In rewatching the Tennant episodes I developed this theory (which I know probably has no basis in reality, being as the theme song's been virtually unchanged since the show's inception) - the thrumming is similar to rhythm of the 'Sound of Drums' The Master heard all his life (according to RTD), and thus, when combined with the high 'heroic' melody, represents the struggle of The Doctor against The Master throughout the series (at least the Tennant episodes).

That is actually a good theory, and when I hear the theme again, I will think of that.

I thought that was obvious. The first time I heard in the Saxon storyline.
