PostSubject: PB's Various Builds   Sat Sep 02, 2017 12:30 pm

Having just joined the forum, I thought I'd show some of the things I've made over the years. Some of them will be things I've made for myself, while others will be things that I've done for other people.

I rarely get to keep my own stuff as at present, I have nowhere to put them.

To get the ball rolling, here's a CO scale 8th Doctor TARDIS that I completed recently.

Just putting the finished build in context with some of my son's toys, though the 8th Doctor is mine. I have to say, I do love the reflections on the windows in this shot, as well as the visible hammered glass panes there.

General shot of the finished model on a standard background.

Attempting to recreate one of the TV Movie promo shots... not terribly well it would seem.

As you can see, a bit of internal lighting gives the model some life.

One final shot for now, the full sized 8th Doctor TARDIS key is used to activate the flashing top light and the "Vworp Vworp" sound effects by waving it (contactless) over the roof.

I'm actually rather happy with this build and will probably have to make one for myself, but not just yet.

Thanks for looking, more soon if you're interested.

Looks beautiful, PB!

Which TARDIS did you use for it? The Eighth Doctor is the only one I don't have a CO TARDIS for and was curious as to what worked best. From the movie, it looks to be larger...like the Ninth/Tenth Doctors' rather than the Seventh's...

Thanks Sea Devil. This TARDIS is entirely scratch built from styrene, acrylic and a bit of brass.

If you were to convert one of the toys, I would suggest that you use the McCoy type.

That's very kind of you to say Sea, I appreciate that.

If you want to see how it was made, you can always take a look at my build progress album, I'll link to it when I'm allowed to.

Here's another Character Option scale TARDIS, this was made to coincide with the release of the first ever Classic figure, the 4th Doctor. It's a sort of idealized version of the TARDIS with a lot of the asymmetry taken out, but still made to look absolutely battered.

I rather like this shot, it almost looks full sized.

This shot has a sort of Death to the Daleks vibe going on.

Both images were not taken by me, they were taken by a chap who frequented various forums as "Baby Jelly." Lovely bloke. He's even allowed shots of this model to be used on three or four Titan Comics covers, so that for me was rather pleasing to see.

Ordinarily I don't usually build things to this scale, but it was kind of interesting to do. I usually make larger items.

Yeah, the chap taking the pictures did a great job with these shots. I think he's still doing web comics with them too.

It's a fair old chunk of cash Amagon. These models take about 6 weeks to design, build and paint.

PostSubject: Re: PB's Various Builds   Wed Sep 06, 2017 2:51 am

Here's a couple of very simple props that I did a while back.

This is the Terileptil mind control device that Richard Mace had around his neck in The Visitation. The "chrome" battery cell in the centre is detachable.

And these are a bunch of 7th Doctor TARDIS door keys that I cast up. The mould for these was taken from one of the screen used props, so not only did it replicate the quirks of the original, but also the defects (that is a good thing by the way), so I felt obliged to replicate them in the same way that Mike Tucker did them for the show back in the 1980's.

Peter Capaldi received one of those castings that I made. Here he's presented with it during a break in the recording of one of his stories for his second season. He was a joy to chat with and he seemed thrilled with the key, given its heritage.

I've just realised that I need to go a photograph some more of my stuff... oh, that's always a chore.

Thanks for looking.

Something a little bit different to show here, a video of me making the Eighth Doctor's TARDIS door key.

For those of you not interested in props, this key is actually a contactless activator for the sound and light effects that I included in the McGann TARDIS model that you can see at the top of this thread.

Hope you like it. Oh and if you don't want to see me build it, but want to see the TARDIS in action, skip to the last few minutes of the video.

I do have a couple of other videos, but the channel is quite new and I'm using very basic equipment to shoot and edit all this. It'll improve in time.

As always, thanks for looking.

Well it's been a while since my last post for various family reasons, but here I am, back again with another video for you in case you're interested. It's quite a long one this time on the topic of how I built that 8th Doctor TARDIS model.

If you don't care to watch all of it and just want to see further shots of the finished piece, feel free to skip to 1h14mins.

Thanks for looking.

Having watched much of the video of how you made that stunning 8th Doctor's TARDIS, I'm even more speechless at the amazing workmanship put into it.

My friend...you are an artist.

Thanks, Sea. You're too kind. Though I have to admit that I'm not entirely sure that the kind of thing I do is of interest to the members here. I'll keep plugging away for now.

Hope you enjoyed what you saw anyway and thanks for your support! Smile

It's been a while since I last updated anything here, but then it's been all go out in the real world. Just to keep things active, here's a full sized TARDIS prop that I made. These photos are not the best and I didn't take them, simply because I completely forgot to take any myself at the time!

This is a fibre glass 9th and 10th Doctor TARDIS, moulded from the original prop. This one was used in a promotional tour, but others I made were used at the various UK exhibitions that the BBC ran around the country.

A bit grainy, but you get the idea. Apparently during this appearance, the wind drew up a strong gust and took the roof off. Luckily it survived, but the lamp took quite the battering!

I'm hoping to cast up my own, but that will have to wait until I have somewhere to put it.

Thanks for looking.

Oh, I would love to have one of those on my lawn, just to give my nosy neighbors something to gossip about! They wouldn't know a TARDIS if they tripped over it, so I would tell them, "That's right, I bought a tool shed. Nothing more to see here. Move along, move along." Wink

I really enjoyed your videos, and wish I had half of your talent. Thank you for sharing them! Cool

Sea, thanks for your continued support - I'm glad you like the TARDIS!

Blackarrow, there is something about having a TARDIS in your garden that seems oddly pleasing. I built one with my late father back in 2004 and the neighbours were always popping by to have a look. It's just a pity that it was never fully finished and has spent all these years in storage.

As for my videos, it's pleasing to know that you got some enjoyment out of them. Feedback is always encouraging because otherwise it can feel like you're shouting into the darkness. Smile

I quite understand, I have a few unfinished projects of my own. Never seem to find the time, despite having good intentions. Nothing as cool as a TARDIS in the garden mind you, just a few things I'd like to see completed. Hopefully the warmer weather will help to jump start my ambitions.. sunny

Looking forward to seeing more of your work! Cool
