RUMOUR: Doctor Who series 10 delayed until 2017

We’re really loving Doctor Who at the minute, the last five episodes of series 9 so far have been excellent. But, according to our source, not everyone agrees…

The BBC are allegedly panicking over the decline in ratings between series 8 and 9, and as a result the previously green lit series 10 is set to be rescheduled for April 2017, making the only Who related shows to be produced next year a Christmas Special and the recently announced spin off, Class. Rumours have circulated for some time now that 2016 would see a series of specials, much like in 2009 with David Tennant, but this does not seem to be the case.

On top of this, should the ratings not pick up the incumbent Doctor Peter Capaldi may be set to leave the Tardis, as the current belief is that the 2016 Christmas show will be a regeneration storyline. Our source claims that after Capaldi was introduced in Deep Breath as a grumpy older Doctor, younger audience members were lost, which the BBC are desperate to regain.

If this is true, which we strongly believe (our source does not wish to be named but they are highly reliable) it’s a very poor decision. TV ratings are a thing of the past, and a totally inaccurate way of judging the success levels of a show, thanks to on-demand, recording and overseas broadcasts. As I stated at the beginning of this post, series 9 is, in my opinion, one of the strongest series the show has had since its revival in 2005, and Peter Capaldi is just beginning to settle in to the role.

this annoys me who cares if young fans don't like Capaldi they are probably the same young fans who refuse to watch Classic Who and only love Tennant and Smith.

This news has me mad as heck, that if true,has Capaldi leaving barely 2 years in the role.I was already unhappy with Matt Smith leaving a bit early but moved on to Capaldi.Now he's about to leave too.

So what this says is that Doctor Who has become a Twilightesque/Hunger Game type of franchise now with young fickle fans who care less about real sci fi and more about cute romantic leads who they can fantasize about in their dreams.

This is another reason why I keep bringing up the idea of a Reboot for the whole Who series.
Start from the Doctor's early years on Galifrey with his time at the Academy,making friends,enemies, etc.
Cast a handsome,young 18 to 21 year old actor in the role and have them commit for atleast 5 years so they have time to grow into the role.
Build it into a long running franchise that could last another 50 years.

At this rate we'll have a new Doctor every week like the Rowan Atkinson special.

If this turns into a repeat of the Colin Baker situation, I will give up on this show altogether. Capaldi is not the problem, it's the shite-tastic writing and production of Moffat that need to go. To waste a performance of Capaldi's caliber and scape goat him for the slipping ratings is a poor choice.

EDIT: This seems like rumor mongering to me. I doubt that BBC would throw Peter away this soon. We just got back into having a 'grown up' as the Doctor. No disrespect to those who love Matt Smith, he just isn't my favorite.

I must say, I'm pretty surprised to read this rumor given the DRAMATIC increase (imho) in quality in stories this season, over last season.

As for the concerns of the Doctor's age and any possible fans needing some dashing twenty-something crush-bait to ogle... I would think casting a young male companion would fit the bill.


And I'd love Faye Marsay to be the new companion!

Exactly just add some eye candy for those that are desperate for it.

This just in Idris Elba to play the Valeyard in Doctor Who season 10!!!👽

There has been a rumor that there would be another "gap year" months before this series started airing and we've got the "ratings drop." Which is also something they seem to talk about every year. So I think this is just a case of someone putting together some bits of into to make a story out of it.

Now, I'm not saying there won't be a gap year. I mean, it could still happen. But if there is I imagine it's been in the works for a while.

Get rid of Moffat. Bring in good writers. Problem solved.

I loathed the Woman Who Lived. But the other stories have all been quite good.
