| War of the Worlds (1989) The Second ComingMany people really hate the second season of Paramount's War of the Worlds series. I personally like it as it really is an improvement over the first season. Here is a group that is supposed to be fighting an extra-terrestrial invasion, yet, instead of having a U.N.I.T. type military force to back up the science team, they just have a van and a super computer. With the team on the run in the second season that deficit is redressed. I also like the fact that they seemed to hire a real director of photography in the second season. When you watch the first season, everything is a bit 'brown' and fuzzy. In the second season everything is crisp and although dark, very much in focus. Being slavishly attached to the radio and film adaptions hobbles the possibilities in the first season. There were some stand out episodes, but for the most part, the aliens weren't really a big threat. The greatest benefit in the second season is the aliens themselves. Instead of being at the mercy of the common cold and barely surviving, this group is organized, disciplined, and have a definite purpose from the opening moments. They also have a well realized organic technology. A great improvement over the McGuyveresque lash-ups of household tech in the first year. I have a hard time taking any bad guy seriously that uses a blender to communicate. |

| Finished Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles the other day.
Next up, time to relinquish control of my dvd player...
The Outer Limits (1963- 1965)
I now have the set released in Australia. Finally looking forward to seeing ALL the episodes. The US release used cheap double sided discs that had playback problems. The Austrailian release has proper single sided discs. Go Aussie!

| Preacher: Season 1. OK, so I've been a fan of this comic since I was in high school. While this show deviates quite a bit from the established comic story, it's got its own good and bad things. It keeps the basic characters and premise, with Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy trying to figure out what Genesis is. Fiore and DeBlanc aren't as much comic relief. Arseface is present. 6 episodes into a 10 episode season, and I like it alot. |
